Bison are struggling to survive in two fronts: North America and Europe. These large herbivores could bring balance back to ecosystems once more if we give them a chance, but habitat loss, lack of genetic diversity and economic interests could condemn them to extinction, or if they survive, to be put behind a fence. In both continents, efforts are focused on keeping bison wild as they always were, in order to bring balance to ecosystems and restore biodiversity. But the bison expansion has many obstacles. Ranchers and farmers don’t want bison near their lands due to the menace of brucelosis, damage to wood and competition for grass. However, many activists, Indigenous People and scientists are taking part in the mission to bring this feral creature into our lives.
